The Journal of Civil Defense is TACDA’s long-running preparedness publication, providing practical, experience-based education to help individuals and families become more self-sufficient during emergencies and disasters.

An annual subscription includes print issues mailed twice each year and access to TACDA’s monthly civil defense presentations via Zoom, where subject-matter experts focus on the how and what of real-world preparedness.

About the Journal

First published in the 1960s when TACDA was founded, the Journal of Civil Defense has served as a trusted civil defense resource for more than 60 years. Originally titled Survive, the Journal features carefully selected articles written by military professionals, emergency responders, scholars, and experienced practitioners.

Print issues are mailed twice annually, in April and October.

Is the sign-up fee charged on renewals?

No. The sign-up fee applies only when a subscription is purchased through the store. Automatic renewals are not charged the sign-up fee again.

Can I purchase past issues of the Journal?

Yes. Past issues of the Journal of Civil Defense, including editions dating back to the 1960s, are available separately in our store while supplies last.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not affect issues already scheduled or delivered.
